What follows are a brief discussion of game consoles that we've tested with Elgato Game Capture HD.Įlgato Game Capture HD 1.2.1 software is needed to play the full assortment of consoles, especially those older ones that output in 240i.įor all of the game consoles you use with Elgato Game Capture HD, make sure you always select the right Input from the Capture Settings section of the software. In general, Elgato Game Capture HD 1.2.1 can work with a game console with the following characteristics:ġ) Must have either HDMI output, or Component/D-Terminal outputĢ) If HDMI is used, the signal must be unencrypted (no HDCP protection)ģ) Must output standard TV resolutions, like 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080pĤ) When using Elgato Game Capture HD 1.2.1 software and above, you can also use Composite input, for 240i or 480i video. My recommendation and what I use personally is the Elgato 4K60 Pro.Elgato Game Capture HD can work with all modern game consoles, and most older "retro" ones as well. If it works fine there but not on your PS5 you know that at least the capture card is working and it must be one of the issues from above. If the issue still persists, try the Capture Card on another device (for example PS4 if you have). If you are certain all the above is set correctly, try rebooting / power-cycling all devices, that can often fix the issue.If your capture Software lets you select different Video Sources, make sure PS5 is selected (Elgato Game Capture lets you select this). So having it connected to a USB Port (best on your Computer) is required. Some Capture Cards (such as Elgato) get their power through USB and don’t have their own power supply unit. Make sure the Capture Card is powered on. ![]() Make sure the latest Capture Card Firmware is installed (can usually be updated through the capture tool on Computer, depending on your capture card model).Make sure you’re using the latest version HDMI Cables.Make sure Cables are Connected Correctly (1) PS5 HDMI OUT > Capture Card HDMI IN / (2) Capture Card HDMI OUT > TV HDMI IN / (3) Capture Card USB > Computer USB.If it’s not a 4K capture card, you’ll have to buy a better capture card for 4K.
